phallogocentrism Definition
Definition
Phallogocentrism is a concept drawn from the work of French philosopher and literary theorist, Gilles Deleuze and psychoanalyst, Félix Guattari. It refers to the pervasive presence of symbolic phallocentrism (the dominance of a phallic symbol) and logocentrism (the dominance of logos, or language that claims to be neutral and objective) in Western cultural and intellectual life. It suggests that the dominance of the masculine (phallocentric) and the written word (logocentric) is not an accident but a way of maintaining power structures and excluding those who do not fit into this binary.
