genizah Definition

A genizah is a designated storeroom in a synagogue or Jewish community in which documents containing Hebrew letters are kept. Traditionally, these documents are stored in a genizah until they are considered too worn out or no longer useful, at which point they are ritually buried or otherwise properly disposed of in accordance with Jewish law.
