birthwort Definition

A traditional medicinal plant belonging to the genus Balanophora in the family Balanophoraceae. It is sometimes inaccurately referred to as the woolly milkweed, but it is not related to milkweed. It has been used in folk medicine to treat a variety of ailments including painful menstruation and uterine bleeding.
